ENHANCED HARD ROCK DRILLING PERFORMANCE AN EMPIRICAL EVALUATION OF CHEMFORCE COMPLEX42™ PERFORMANCE ADDITIVE

Abstract:

This white paper delineates the results and findings of a large-scale hard rock pilings controlled drilling trial conducted with Access Excavation between 9 July and Aug 15, 2023. The core intent was to assess and evaluate the comparative performance of drilling rigs, plus wear on tungsten carbide tooling, drilling barrels and hard facing plus diesel fuel use when drilling with water only versus water with addition of 0.8% Complex42™. The study aimed to shed light on potential advancements in drilling efficiencies brought about by Chemforce’s proprietary additive, Complex42™.

Controls:

Pairs of drill holes, one utilising Complex42™ and the other relying solely on water, were drilled in close proximity, ensuring that the rock hardness remained consistent. This approach was adopted to eliminate any potential advantages offered by the Complex42™ additive. To eliminate rig-related bias, each pair of holes was drilled using the same drilling rig. Key metrics such as fuel consumption and tool wear were recorded for every hole and subsequently averaged to provide robust, statistically unbiased supporting data.
